Unique and handmade presents

We are in LOVE (okay, obsessed) with Etsy.com. We’ve managed to get unique, handmade presents for everyone on our holiday gift list exclusively through Etsy. The website, which connection artists, jewelry makers, clothing designers, knitters, photographers, and vintage dealers with online customers. We also LOVE that anyone can start their own Etsy store and sell to the world. With such a creative group on the JoFrost.com forums, (and after reading the recent article on Etsy in the New York Times, we thought we’d plant a seed of thought in your minds for starting your own business in 2010!

And, since we’re die-hard shoppers, we also checked in with some of our favorite mom bloggers for Etsy store recommendations:

Rebecca Woolf of http://www.girlsgonechild.net recommends FeatherBrain for adorable, whimsical, handmade-feathered headbands:

Heather Armstrong of http://www.dooce.com wrote a post about Foster Kade Designs: http://www.etsy.com/shop/fosterkadedesigns?section_id=6281309 here’s what Heather said about Foster Kade Designs, via Dooce.com’s Daily Style section:

“Things with my diaper bag have gotten a little out of hand as mountains of wipes and hand sanitizer and burp clothes erupt at the seams. So I was looking for something small that I could shove my wallet and iPhone into when I run quick errands without the baby so that I don't have to lug that huge trunk of diapers around. I found this adorable handmade clutch at the Foster Kade Designs Etsy shop (she also makes very cute nursing covers), and it's the perfect size for just those two things. However, you just know that it's a matter of time before I'm shoving diapers and wipes into this thing, and next thing you know I've got seventy different diaper bags, all shapes and sizes, sitting on every surface in the house.”

Maggie Mason of http://www.mightygirl.com, http://www.mightyjunior.com, http://www.mightyhaus.com, and http://www.mightygoods.com recommends Lemonade Handmade: http://www.etsy.com/shop/lemonadehandmade. Here’s what Maggie said about Lemonade Handmade via Mightygoods.com:

“If you’re looking for a tasteful but current jewelry gift, choose something from the updated classics at Lemonade Handmade. Nearly every piece is a contender for regular wardrobe rotation.”

Other Etsy stores we love:

And New Orleans-based artist, Rebecca Bouche’s Etsy store exhibits her whimsical mixed media art work (which we are coveting and hoping to find one of her original works under our Christmas tree):

Check out all of these stores for ideas on starting your own storefront (if you’re so inclined) and, here’s to turning our passions and dreams into reality in 2010!
