Getting my 2 1/2 year old in his car seat

SUBJECT: getting my 2 1/2 year old in his car seat

Sometimes he's a gem, other times he is just plain horrid … screaming, kicking and occasionally if I get my face or fingers too close – biting. Does anyone have any tips??
I try really hard not to shout & yell and speak in a firm, calm voice telling him not to do it, but find that really hard some days. I have even thought of putting him on his naughty spot when we get home, but that the time lapse in between doing the naughty thing & punishment would be too long.
Would appreciate any help or ideas.

Hiya Pippi,
Here's a few things you can do:

  1. Bring the car seat into the house and roll play going on a journey. This adventure will all be part and parcel for realizing that seatbelts have to be buckled up before going on your journey.
  2. Let him choose a few toys to take with him so that he's more engrossed with playing with the toys than worrying about getting in his car seat.

Reading between the lines, I can surmise that your frustration gets the better of you and now he knows the car seat is a point of contention. I also see there being nothing wrong in giving him a naughty spot when you get home. But remember, a warning needs to come first. Let us know how you get on.

Happy Travels!
